Today marks a significant day for Pinehurst Resort & Country Club and the United States Golf Association (USGA). Following their monumental 2020 announcement establishing “Golf House Pinehurst” and the first-ever U.S. Open Anchor Site, USGA confirms Pinehurst as the host for six more prestigious championships. These include the 2027 U.S. Women’s Amateur, 2032 U.S. Junior Amateur and U.S. Girls’ Junior, 2038 U.S. Amateur, 2044 U.S. Women’s Amateur, and a yet-to-be-announced U.S. Adaptive Open.

USGA’s Chief Championships Officer, John Bodenhamer, expressed the association’s commitment to their enduring partnership with Pinehurst. He emphasized that the venue’s rich golf heritage and the resort’s commitment to excellence made it the ideal location for the USGA’s wide range of world-class events.

The newly-announced championships make it clear that Pinehurst and North Carolina will serve as frequent hubs for the USGA. Notably, the U.S. Junior Amateur and U.S. Girls’ Junior will be hosted at Pinehurst for the first time.

Bob Dedman Jr., representing Pinehurst’s owning family, expressed gratitude for the ongoing USGA partnership, which aligns with the resort’s objective of hosting a variety of premier championships.

The news comes as a significant development in the USGA’s strategic expansion. It is another milestone that reinforces their commitment to golfing excellence, building upon Pinehurst’s extensive legacy which includes hosting 12 USGA championships. Future events planned at the venue stretch from 2024’s U.S. Open to a U.S. Open in 2047, interspersed with multiple other championships.

Historic and Upcoming Championships

The U.S. Women’s Amateur, which started in 1895, is an open tournament for female amateur golfers with a Handicap Index® not exceeding 5.4. The U.S. Junior Amateur, established in 1948, is open to golfers who haven’t reached their 19th birthday and have a Handicap Index® below 4.4. Meanwhile, the U.S. Girls’ Junior is open to female amateurs under 19 with a Handicap Index® not exceeding 9.4.

Pinehurst Resort has previously hosted the U.S. Women’s Amateur in 1989 and will host the U.S. Open multiple times through 2047. The resort has also hosted the 2017 U.S. Amateur Four-Ball Championship, the 2019 U.S. Amateur Championship, and the first two playings of the U.S. Adaptive Open in 2022 and 2023.

Today’s announcement makes it abundantly clear that the partnership between Pinehurst Resort and the USGA promises to deliver spectacular golfing events for years to come, benefitting not only North Carolina but the global golf community as a whole.
