Who Has Won Most Masters Golf Tournaments, Augusta National Golf Club

The Masters Tournament is one of the most prestigious and revered events in the world of golf. Held annually at Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia, the Masters is the first of the four major championships in professional golf. Since its inception in 1934, the tournament has seen many great golfers compete for the coveted Green Jacket, awarded to the winner.

Over the years, a handful of players have risen above the rest to dominate the Masters Tournament. These golfers have won the event multiple times, cementing their place in golf history. In this article, we’ll take a look at who has won the most Masters golf tournaments.

Jack Nicklaus: 6 Wins

With six victories, Jack Nicklaus is the undisputed king of the Masters Tournament. The Golden Bear won his first Green Jacket in 1963, and went on to win the tournament five more times over the course of his career. Nicklaus’ last Masters win came in 1986, when he became the oldest player to win the tournament at the age of 46.

Arnold Palmer: 4 Wins

Arnold Palmer was one of the most beloved and iconic figures in the history of golf, and his success at the Masters is a big part of his legend. Palmer won the tournament four times, in 1958, 1960, 1962, and 1964. He was the first player to win the tournament multiple times, and his swashbuckling style and larger-than-life personality helped make the Masters the major event that it is today.

Tiger Woods: 5 Wins

Tiger Woods burst onto the scene in the late 1990s, and quickly established himself as one of the greatest golfers of all time. Woods won his first Masters in 1997, and went on to win the tournament four more times, in 2001, 2002, 2005, and 2019. His win in 2019 was especially remarkable, as it came after a long layoff due to injury and personal issues.

Jimmy Demaret, Sam Snead, Gary Player: 3 Wins Each

Three golfers have won the Masters three times: Jimmy Demaret, Sam Snead, and Gary Player. Demaret won his titles in 1940, 1947, and 1950, while Snead won in 1949, 1952, and 1954. Player won his three titles in 1961, 1974, and 1978, and remains the only golfer from outside the United States to have won the tournament three times.

Other Multiple Winners

In addition to the golfers mentioned above, several others have won the Masters multiple times. They include Horton Smith (2 wins), Byron Nelson (2 wins), Ben Hogan (2 wins), Tom Watson (2 wins), Seve Ballesteros (2 wins), Bernhard Langer (2 wins), and Jose Maria Olazabal (2 wins).

The Masters Tournament has seen many great golfers compete over the years, but a select few have risen above the rest to dominate the event. Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, and Tiger Woods are the three most successful golfers in the tournament’s history, with a combined 15 victories between them.

However, many other golfers have won the tournament multiple times, and their contributions to the event should not be overlooked. The Masters remains one of the most prestigious events in all of sports, and the players who have won multiple Green Jackets are among the greatest athletes of all time.
