Atlanta Drive GC, the latest addition to the golf scene, is creating quite the buzz. This innovative golf team is backed by the owner of the Falcons, Arthur Blank, and established golf stars Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy, setting the stage for a thrilling setup.
The ambitious Atlanta Drive GC will compete in a state-of-the-art, tech-infused golf league, known as the TGL (TechInfused Golf League), beginning in January 2024. Inaugurating its participation in the league, Atlanta Drive GC recently unveiled an electric red logo that uses a driver and golf ball to fashion the letter ‘A’, encapsulating the essence of the city’s drive to succeed and its commitment to golf.
The name, Atlanta Drive GC, is no accident. According to a news release from the team, the name is a “modern reflection of the continual forward progression that defines Atlanta’s legacy.” Atlanta, a beacon of progress in music, design, business, and technology, now has ambition on the golf greens.
The Atlanta Drive GC will stand alongside Blank’s seemingly ever-growing sports portfolio, which includes the Falcons, Atlanta United, and a network of PGA Tour Superstore locations across the country. In conversation with Channel 2 sports director Zach Klein, Blank conveyed the growth potential the golf simulation business has with its younger fan base and utilization of technology to generate a diverse engagement.
The TGL holds a unique approach. The six-team league will see teams composed of three PGA Tour players competing in 15 regular-season matches on Monday nights, followed by semifinals and final matches. Ditching the traditional links, the TGL matches will be hosted inside a cutting-edge arena in Palm Beach, Florida, bringing physical and virtual golf together in a focus on technology and fan engagement.
The Atlanta Drive GC roster still awaits its lineup announcement. The league featuring top players including Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy, Jon Rahm, Justin Thomas, Rickie Fowler, Collin Morikawa, Matt Fitzpatrick, Justin Rose, Xander Schauffele, Max Homa, Adam Scott, Billy Horschel, Tyrell Hatton, Tommy Fleetwood, Shane Lowry, and Tom Kim all set to step onto this revolutionary golf platform. Until then, golf enthusiasts are left in excited anticipation as they await the team’s inaugural steps into this groundbreaking golf league in the upcoming year.
